Introducing Myself

Marvin Arias is an Electronic Engineer, (1993, UNI, Nicaragua), University Lecturer and Research Responsible of the project of Applied Electronics of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, (FEC), at the National University of Engineering, (UNI), Nicaragua, supported by SIDA/SAREC. He started in 1999 as a part time PhD student at the former Department of Applied Electronics, now Department of Electroscience at the Lund Institute of Technology, Lund University, Sweden as well as part time lecturer at the Digital Electronics and Communications Department at UNI/FEC. His research interest includes Digital Signal Processing Techniques, Estimation of radio propagation and Channel Modelling of Mobile Radio Systems.

Working Project

Multipath propagation in radio channels
Participants: Marvin Arias, Bengt Mandersson
Cooperation: National University of Engineering (UNI), Managua, Nicaragua.
Description: Designing digital communication systems requires dedicated simulation approaches with an emphasis on the multipath propagation channel including directions of transmission and arrival. For the design and simulation of many practical mobile radio systems, we need channel models that can be easy to implement as well as to accomplish with practical important requirements such as simplicity and adaptability. The project activity is focused on modeling multipath propagation in the radio channel for mobile communication in the Gigahertz frequency band. In receiving radio signals indoors or in urban environments, a lot of reflections occurs. The received signal in the mobile unit consists of a large numbers of echoes and normally also a direct wave. The echoes arrived with variations in delays and incoming directions. Some measurements of the radio channel have been done at the department of Eletroscience. More measurements, however, will be needed. Measurements of the impulse response of the channel for various conditions will be made in stationary as well as non-stationary conditions.
