Multipath propagation in radio channels
Participants: Marvin
Arias, Bengt Mandersson
Cooperation: National University of Engineering
(UNI), Managua, Nicaragua.
Description: Designing digital communication
systems requires dedicated simulation approaches with an emphasis on the
multipath propagation channel including directions of transmission and arrival.
For the design and simulation of many practical mobile radio systems, we need
channel models that can be easy to implement as well as to accomplish with
practical important requirements such as simplicity and adaptability. The
project activity is focused on modeling multipath propagation in the radio
channel for mobile communication in the Gigahertz frequency band. In receiving
radio signals indoors or in urban environments, a lot of reflections occurs. The
received signal in the mobile unit consists of a large numbers of echoes and
normally also a direct wave. The echoes arrived with variations in delays and
incoming directions. Some measurements of the radio channel have been done at
the department of Eletroscience. More measurements, however, will be needed.
Measurements of the impulse response of the channel for various conditions will
be made in stationary as well as non-stationary conditions.
